  1. Plug in the extender, the power LED lights. If the Power LED does not light up, hit the Power or On/Off button.
  2. Connect your computer or mobile device to the extender’s Wi-Fi network. The extender’s default WiFi network name (SSID) is NETGEAR_EXT. The extender network either has no password or has password as its default password.
  3. Launch a web browser and type mywifiext.net or 192.168.1.250. The New Extender Setup page appears.
  4. Click on NEW EXTENDER SETUP.
  5. Choose your extender’s admin credentials. These credentials are used to access your extender’s settings via web browser. ( We recommend leaving the default User Name as admin and using a password that differs from your WiFi network password ).
  6. Select answer to two security questions from the drop-down choices. If you forget your extender’s admin credentials, you are able to recover them by answering these questions.
  7. Click or hit NEXT. If your extender asks if you want to use the NETGEAR Genie for assistance, click or press YES or CONTINUE.
  8. Your extender looks for local WiFi networks. Choose the radio buttons for your network’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi Network Names (SSIDs).
  9. Click or press NEXT.
  10. Enter your existing network password and then click or tap NEXT.
  11. Select the SSIDs and passwords for your extension. By default, the extender takes the name of your current network, with _2GEXT appended for the 2.4GHz band and _5GEXT for the 5GHz band. By default, the password for each band is the same as your current network.
  12. (Optional) Mesh extenders allow you to utilize the same WiFi name and password as your existing network. If your extender supports it, tick the box labeled Enable One WiFi Name. This enables your extender to share the same WiFi name (SSID) and password as your current WiFi network.
  13. Click or press NEXT.
  14. Your settings will be applied by the extension. This could take many minutes. The extension displays the WiFi network name (SSID) and password for each of its bands. Take note of them.
  15. Go to the WiFi settings of the device you intend to connect to the extender network and select the new network.
  16. Return to your online browser, select the checkbox at the bottom of the page, and then click or tap CONTINUE.
Your extender is now extending your network’s coverage.
